Jace, Katie, and Rylan

These kids definitely made my job easy!  Big brother Jace and big sister Katie were willing to hug and cuddle so nicely with their new baby brother Rylan that it didn't take much to snap a priceless picture of all three.  And Rylan even gave me a little smile while I was doing his tummy picture!  The weather was also just about perfect and they had a wonderfully shady backyard with fabulous lighting.  A great combination for some great photos!

Fallon, Ten Days

Fallon belongs to one of my best 'word-of-mouth' advertisers, Jamie, who has spread my blog to all her friends and has gotten me countless sessions (especially in Minneapolis/St.Paul!), although this is the first time I've actually been able to take pictures FOR her!  So it was pretty special.  She and Andrew welcomed little Fallon into the world and we managed to sneak outside for a few shots between the downpours... the sun even came out for a little bit!  Unfortunately the grass was too wet to sit in but we did what we could.  I also found a neat old box to put Fallon in as she grows to show a comparison, however she didn't really like it this time--hopefully she learns to appreciate it as the year goes on!

We couldn't get this picture without the pacifier but this is the Coca-Cola box I want to use as she grows!

Kaden, Three Weeks

Tiny Kaden could easily be mistaken for a baby only a few days old!  He was perfectly calm and content and easy to pose.  He slept for awhile but then woke up and flashed a few smiles our way.  I can see him being a heart breaker already!  It was incredibly gorgeous outside so we went into the front yard to do a few shots in the warm afternoon sun.  You may also remember his mom and dad from their wedding I shot a couple years ago, too!

Mahren, 7 Days

Sweet little Mahren belongs to my friend Gwen (who's husband is Nathan's cousin as well) and I was so happy to be able to capture these shots of mother and daughter at such a precious time in their lives.  Mahren was very well behaved and fell right asleep during the session, opening her eyes briefly as to see why there were so many voices around her!  We even grabbed a fresh pink flower from outside to place behind her ear for a very girly pose.  I definitely see lots of pink in this little one's future!

It looks like she's thinking, "How does my hair look?" in this shot below!

Keegan, 8 Days

Tiny little Keegan, who arrived three weeks early, belongs to a couple some of you may remember from a wedding I shot last April--Jon and Sharee!  (And it's funny I started that post with "It's been so busy with babies!")  You'll even recognize their rings on Keegan's toes from a closeup I took on their wedding day, too!  Its always fun to come back to photograph new babies of past clients.  I can't wait to watch this little guy grow up this year!

Kinley, Levi and new baby Brody

Happy Memorial Day!  I'm taking a quick break to share a post so I don't get too far behind.  I have lots of pictures to post coming up....this time it's a family I've photographed a lot in the last several years.  It first started with Kinley when she was just an only child (again, this was even before I started blogging!)  Then little brother Levi joined the family, and now a 2nd little brother named Brody!  I last saw Kinley and Levi this past summer and they sure have grown--especially Levi's curls!

Landon, Liam, and new baby Leyton!

I've photographed this adorable family three times--and each time they added a new family member!  (In fact, the first time I photographed the oldest, Landon, I didn't even have this blog yet!)  It's fun to see families grow.  It was a rainy day for their session so we had planned on taking big brothers Landon and Liam outside to play in their raincoats but it was so COLD and WINDY that we had to stay indoors!  We still got some great shots and Leyton slept peacefully for all his closeups--check 'em out!

Benjamin and Hannah

I last saw Benjamin a little over a year ago.  This time, he's got a new house AND a new sister!  I was so happy to be able to capture this newest addition to this beautiful family.  We even got to go outside for awhile in the empty lot across the street--I loved the view as you'd never know we were in the city!  It's fun finding places like that where you least expect it.  Baby Hannah was such a little doll...it took awhile to get her to nod off to sleep, but once she closed her eyes it was perfect!  Here are my MANY favorites!

Mckenna, 10 days

Here is another session from the cities.  Little ten-day-old Mckenna finally fell asleep after some cuddling from her mom, and she even let a smile show as she got comfortable!  Again, I went into this session with plenty of time and a LOT of patience.  It paid off and I was able to get more amazing newborn shots.  Check out my favorites!

Lillian, 11 Days

Beautiful 11-day-old Lillian was the first appointment I had in the cities and it was a fabulous start!  I definitely had a 'breakthrough' when it comes to newborns, and as I wrote in another blog, I will re-post it here:

The most challenging and rewarding subjects to photograph are newborn babies. It took me a long time to finally figure out how to get those shots I had only before seen in magazines or done by famous photographers. I had no idea the tricks they used to pose or what magic wand they had that would set these tiny beings to that perfect sleepy status that would allow for daring poses with dramatic light--a sleeping infant in her father's own two hands.  I finally realized it wasn't one special trick in particular that made moments like this happen. It was merely patience. That quiet, unhurried, calm, waiting, sitting, holding-your-breath kind of patience until that last eyelid fluttered shut and the moment was there. It may have taken just a few minutes, or it could have taken an hour. Even two. But the moment comes, and just as you have been patient enough to wait for it, the reward arrives. And it's right there in front of you.

And it's so completely worth it.
