Rylan and Reagan, Six Months!

It was time for another session with twins Rylan and Reagan!  Our last session was when they were three months, and before that, when they were newborns.  They are growing bigger by the day, and can now sit up all on their own and even stand (if assisted!)  We did their session in their cute little room, with plenty of colors and natural light...

Hayden and Brendan

My last post in the "Twin Cities Sessions" is finally here!  Cutie cousins Hayden and Brendan (along with their moms) had a great time in front of the camera.  Hayden even came all the way from Arizona, and it was the first time she had seen snow, even though there wasn't much left on the ground!  But both kids were extremely photogenic, from Brendan's adorable facial expressions to Hayden's gorgeous eyes--I had WAY too many shots to choose from!  Check 'em out!

A Different Kind of Photo Session

As many of you know, I am a mostly an on-location, natural light photographer.  I don't have a studio (and don't want one!) but I couldn't pass up an offer from Heritage Embroidery & Design, who asked me to do a corporate photo shoot for some of their new apparel to use in advertisements.  They even had a little studio set-up in their warehouse and it worked great.  And of course, with fun models of all ages, it turned out to be a blast!  Here are some of my favorite "fun" shots!

Lauren

I'm beginning to think Lauren's baby tear drops are her trademark; they are perfectly shaped and hang ever so slightly below her eyes to make an emotional photograph come to life!  Of course she smiled soon after that (and also made a cute fishy-face!) but even the last time I visited Lauren in the cities when she was only three months, I was able to shoot one of my  favorite tear drop shots.   Maybe we will have to make this a tradition?  Here are the rest of my favorites, most of them happy and tear-free.

Mckenna, 10 days

Here is another session from the cities.  Little ten-day-old Mckenna finally fell asleep after some cuddling from her mom, and she even let a smile show as she got comfortable!  Again, I went into this session with plenty of time and a LOT of patience.  It paid off and I was able to get more amazing newborn shots.  Check out my favorites!

Jared and Beth's Engagement Session

Well, first up, the computer news.  I've got myself set up temporarily on my MacBook laptop, and I have transferred what I need for the time being.  I'm bringing my iMac desktop to Grand Forks tomorrow, so hopefully they can take a look at it and let me know what to do from here.  Again--all photos are safe and backed up, so no worries there!

Now.... BACK TO THE PHOTOS!  We left off with my posts from the Minneapolis/St. Paul area sessions...  I took Jared and Beth's engagement shots near downtown Minneapolis (St. Anthony's and Main) on a brisk March morning.  It seemed we had the place to ourselves, as not many shops or restaurants had opened yet--which was perfect for photos!  I loved shooting in this area.  There were so many neat backgrounds to choose from and the possibilities were endless.  Here are just a few of my many favorites!

When It Rains, It Pours

I awoke this morning to discover my trusty iMac wasn't feeling up to booting up.  In fact, it wasn't up to much of anything.  And after 2 hours on the phone with tech support, it appears my computer needs to take a trip to the computer doctor.

I do not know the fate of my hard drive, however I DO know that all my pictures (and yours!) are safe and sound.  Luckily, I practice a stern habit of backing up my images to external hard drives EVERY DAY.  So, everything is here!  I just have to wait and see what happens with my main computer before I am completely back up and running.

In the meantime, I am working from my MacBook, which will still allow me to get things done, but a little slower.  I'll be back as SOON as I can with some updates.  In the meantime, send good vibes to my iMac so it's back to new in no time!

I'm Teaching!

I have to apologize that I have not been blogging all of my amazing clients from Minneapolis this past weekend just yet!  They are coming soon, I promise.  The same with e-mails.  I'm still un-burying myself from being out of my office for the past several days!

Additionally, I have had to take a quick break to concentrate on preparing for an upcoming class I'll be teaching!  I've been asked to do an introduction to digital photography at the high school this Thursday afternoon.  I'm very excited to be meeting the kids and sharing a little bit of my knowledge.  I am currently working on a FUN, INTERACTIVE presentation to show, and then we'll be taking our cameras out to do some real-life shooting and experimenting.  Of course this preparation is taking up some of my time right now, but as I said--the class is this Thursday, and after that I'll be done!  Wish me luck!

Here's a sneak peek at the cover page; I'll be presenting this on a giant screen and I'm creating it with Keynote on my iMac.  It's fun, colorful, and packed with images!

Lillian, 11 Days

Beautiful 11-day-old Lillian was the first appointment I had in the cities and it was a fabulous start!  I definitely had a 'breakthrough' when it comes to newborns, and as I wrote in another blog, I will re-post it here:

The most challenging and rewarding subjects to photograph are newborn babies. It took me a long time to finally figure out how to get those shots I had only before seen in magazines or done by famous photographers. I had no idea the tricks they used to pose or what magic wand they had that would set these tiny beings to that perfect sleepy status that would allow for daring poses with dramatic light--a sleeping infant in her father's own two hands.  I finally realized it wasn't one special trick in particular that made moments like this happen. It was merely patience. That quiet, unhurried, calm, waiting, sitting, holding-your-breath kind of patience until that last eyelid fluttered shut and the moment was there. It may have taken just a few minutes, or it could have taken an hour. Even two. But the moment comes, and just as you have been patient enough to wait for it, the reward arrives. And it's right there in front of you.

And it's so completely worth it.

Fun in the Cities!

I'm still hangin' out in the Minneapolis area, shooting sessions all over town.  I've been in so many different suburbs I don't know which way is north and which way is south--luckily I have my trusty GPS to lead the way!  I have a couple sessions tomorrow (Saturday) and then I finally start the 6 hour trek home.  I have SO many amazing pictures to share when I return, so keep checking back for lots of new blog posts!

Today I had a special treat and got to hang out with fellow photographer Mandy Birdwell (the one with the fabulous canvas prints everyone has been raving about!) and we had fun chatting about photography, camera gear and iMacs for hours.  Jayden even let us use her as a model while we tried out Mandy's new softbox in her home studio.  We only took a few shots, but I just had to share this one.  It looks like she's got somethin' to say!  So cute!
